Conducted by TNS Ilres in 2017 and published in February 2018, the survey found 19% of the population surveyed had ridden a bike in the previous week, 17% in the previous month and 19% in the previous 12 months.

Only 5% of respondents said they had never ridden a bike. Broken down by nationality group, the survey findings showed few differences between Luxembourgers and the main mass of different nationalities in Luxembourg with over half cycling.

However, the uptake in cycling was strongest in the Portuguese community, of which 59% of respondents had ridden a bike in the past 12 months or more frequently. The biggest factors for encouraging people to get on their bikes were separating cycle lanes from motorised vehicles (90%), having uninterrupted cycle lanes (90%) and increased respect for cyclists and other road users (87%).

The survey also found that 94% of respondents had access to a private car at home. According to a 2014 Statista report, 88% of American households registered at least one passenger vehicle, followed by Germany, South Korea, France, Malaysia and Japan, which had an 80% car ownership rate.
