After the first instalment of the end-of-year Politmonitor survey looked at the popularity of individual political parties, the second chapter considered individual politicians.

Working on behalf of the Luxemburger Wort and RTL, TNS Ilres polled 1,020 Luxembourgers aged 18 and over from 9-21 November.

Foreign affairs minister Jean Asselborn (LSAP) was top of the podium for competence, followed by parliament president Mars Di Bartolomeo (LSAP). Tied in third place were prime minister Xavier Bettel and Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer, both of the DP.

Among the politicians who gained in popularity were CSV MEP Viviane Reding, who overtook opposition leader Claude Wiseler (CSV), who fell from fifth (in spring) to eighth place. His standing among young voters did, however, improve.

Alex Bodry (LSAP) gained 4 percentage points, ensuring that five out of the top ten politicians were from the LSAP.

The biggest losers were education minister Claude Meisch, who dropped four percentage points since the last poll, to reach 29%.
