The Luxembourg water authority (Administration de la gestion de l’eau) has imposed a ban on swimming and other nautical activities on the Haute-Sûre (Upper- Sûre) lake due to the presence of dangerous algae. Please be aware.
As part of the regular monitoring of the quality of bathing water, a proliferation of the potentially harmful "blue-green algae", known as cyanobacteria, has been observed across the entire Upper-Sûre lake. As a result, a ban on bathing and all other nautical activities has been put in place with immediate effect.
In addition, authorities also insist that dogs and other pets do not drink water from the lake, and that any fish caught should not be consumed.
If you should experience any health problems after swimming, please talk to your doctor and mention any contact with toxic cyanobacteria.
