The information was confirmed by social affairs minister Romain Schneider (LSAP) via Radio 100,7, after a rift between the two bodies meant discussions broke down. Schneider said he wanted a quick solution, so that insured people receiving psychotherapy treatment can be reimbursed by the national health fund as soon as possible.

The negotiations date back to 2018. Fapsylux wants insured people to have as much freedom as possible to access psychotherapy and for the therapist to be able to make their own diagnosis independent of the patient's general practitioner.

A global surge in depression and anxiety as a result of the pandemic and subsequent economic crisis have pushed the discussion to the surface once again.

What is covered by the CNS?

According to support group "prévention dépression", in Luxembourg, therapy with a psychologist is usually supported by the CNS in hospitals and some other services, but are not yet reimbursed when offered in a private practice.

Medications, especially antidepressants, are reimbursed at 80%. Consultation with a psychiatrist or psychotherapy performed by a psychiatrist are reimbursed at approximately 75%.
