Samuel Sieber: excited to share thoughts on how research can make a real difference Médecins Sans Frontières

Samuel Sieber turns knowledge into humanitarian action. After finishing his PhD at the University of Basel, he decided to put his expertise to use at the world’s largest humanitarian agency committed to achieving 'zero-hunger'. At the UN World Food Programme he worked towards saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. With renewed understanding for these areas, he moved to the world’s leading independent international medical relief organisation: Médecins Sans Frontières.

What do you do?

I am the policy, practice and communication advisor with Médecins Sans Frontières’ Operational Research Unit LuxOR in Luxembourg. My job is to help communicate our research work in humanitarian settings to key stakeholders and the public, and to move study findings back into policy change and improved practices.

What attracted you to speak at TedX?

A Ted talk is tremendous opportunity to present my unit’s work to a broader audience in Luxembourg and beyond. And I am excited to share a few thoughts on how I think research can make a real difference--both in universities and throughout our programmes all over the world.

Which other speakers are you interested in hearing?

I am particularly looking forward to Patricia Abdelnour’s talk, as I am an amateur musician myself. And I can’t wait to hear Peter Stibrany, as I am into tech too.

TedXLuxembourgCity takes place at Neimënster on 28 April. The event sold out in just 6 minutes. But on 17 April Delano will hold a contest to win 2 tickets in our 10 Things To Do This Week newsletter. Sign up here.
