After some 18 years on the professional circuit, Luxembourg’s most famous female tennis player announced on Wednesday that she is going to retire from the court. 33-year old Mandy Minella, who started playing tennis at the age of five, has had a mixed career that was dogged by injury and inconsistency in its latter stages.

She has won eleven singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit as well as well a singles title and three doubles events in the WTA 125K series.

Her greatest achievements as a singles player came at the US Open, where she reached the 3rd round in 2010 (losing to Venus Williams). The following year she was voted Luxembourg sportswoman of the year.
