The environment administration in 2020 analysed 195 products from 39 shops and suppliers in Luxembourg, finding that only 44 were fully compliant with EU rules. Infractions among the other 151 products included a lack of authorisation or improper labelling.

More than 5,000 so-called biocidal products are authorised for use in the EU, with a full database available on the European Chemicals Agency’s website.

In most cases, shops were ordered to stop selling the products, return them to their supplier or destroy remaining stock. The environment administration issued ten fines worth €25,000 in total. One case was forwarded to the public prosecutor.

Checks continue in 2021, the administration said.
