News broke on Tuesday of the sudden death of Steve Kaspar, a multimedia experimental artist who had a recent exhibition at the Nosbaum Reding art gallery.

Born in 1952, Kaspar ended up studying “new music theatre” at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (high school for music and dance) under Argentinean composer Mauricio Kagel.

In the 70s and 80s, Kaspar divided his time between Luxembourg and Brussels and, according to Wikipedia, he experimented with performance, sound poetry, video and painting.

More recently he worked with experimental contemporary music ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin, as well as cellist André Mergenthaler. Kaspar was also into the world of dance and collaborated on works by the Luxembourg choreographers Sylvia Camarda and Jean-Guillaume Weis.

Publisher and curator Hans Fellner, who worked with Kaspar on a 2011 project titled “Recovering”, was among the first to break the news of the artist’s death on his Facebook page. “Very sad news…he had so many projects still to do.” Fashion designer Ezri Kahn, photographer Bohumil Kostohryz and film maker Jacques Molitor were among those paying tribute.
