According to parliament, 5.7m tests are being distributed to four regional centres (Sanem, Bertrange, Diekirch and Grevenmacher) to give all employees a chance to test themselves during this timeframe.

Self-employed people and employers with one employee will also receive an invitation. Employers with over 500 staff, and local authorities, will receive their kits delivered separately.

Employees are not obliged to undergo self-testing; however, labour minister Dan Kerschd (LSAP) said that legal action for failing to comply was “conceivable”.

He added that employers have an obligation to give staff the means to protect themselves.

The kits are not intended for customers of bars and restaurants. As a reminder, some 500,000 rapid antigen self-testing kits were made available free of charge for hotel and catering businesses.

Once the kits in this distribution campaign have been used, employers will be responsible for sourcing their own kits.
