“The average package for a mid-level expat worker in the UK” is £311,240, according to a report published by ECA, a firm which advises on expat HR packages.

In a press release issued on 21 May, the company said:

“ECA’s annual MyExpatriate Market Pay report surveys the cost of benefits, salaries and tax treatments in countries around the world in order to assist companies with benchmarking their expatriate packages when relocating staff. Benefits include the allowance to cover essential costs such as accommodation, international school fees, utilities or cars.”

The top five pricey places are rounded out by Japan, China, India and France.

A rep for the firm told Delano that Luxembourg placed 25th in this year’s rankings. “A total expat package in Luxembourg was $226,209 (€189,037) on average in 2018,” he said in an email.

ECA said it compared the 40 countries with cities listed in Z/Yen Group’s Global Financial Centres Index. The consulting firm stated: “More than 280 companies took part in the survey covering 130 countries and over 10,000 international assignees.”
