The event at the stade Michel Wagner, in the Weimerskirch neighbourhood of Luxembourg City, was smaller than in previous years, but the organisers say team spirit was high.
Organiser Joe Lister said: “What made today successful was everyone getting involved and getting stuck in. It’s clear there has been an obvious improvement in the standard at every level, both for the referees and players.”
The eight competing teams spanned all levels and experience. Indeed, in an unusual change in fortunes, the winning team was not a side full of tough rugby men but a mixed team called The Underdogs.
The tournament was organised in partnership with Luxembourg Touch and Rugby Club Luxembourg. Touch is essentially a non-contact version of rugby league played in teams of six and is played all year round in Luxembourg by both men and women.
