Of 15 new petitions that opened for signature on Friday, three related to the country's vaccination programme Romain Gamba

Petitions 1821, 1824 and 1827 call for action on the country’s sluggish vaccination response. The first wants a public debate on vaccine management, the second asks for a referendum to find out if people would accept the Russian or Chinese vaccines, among others. Meanwhile, the third pushes for Luxembourg to place an order for the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to vaccinate the entire population.

At the time of writing, just over 50,000 people in Luxembourg had received a single vaccine dose and over 22,000 had received the recommended two doses.

Travel cropped up in petition 1850, which wants a lower-cost PCR solution for urgent cross-border travel.

Petition 1822 calls for the government’s resignation in the context of what the author describes as “national politics and the resulting resistance from the people.”

Petitions which garner more 4,500 signatures automatically lead to a public debate around their request. Anyone aged over 16 may sign a petition provided they have a Luxembourg social security number.
