Luxembourg prime minister Xavier Bettel is embraced by French president Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée palace in Paris on Tuesday.
24 hours after his solo performance at the lectern following a meeting with Boris Johnson put him in the global spotlight, Xavier Bettel (DP) was given a friendly reception in Paris when meeting French president Emmanuel Macron. The two discussed preparations for the next European Council meeting on 17 October, including climate change, migration and the EU budget.
While in the French capital, Bettel met with prime minister Édouard Philipp to discuss bilateral relations and in particular trans-border cooperation. The Luxembourg premier also met with Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo for talks focused on multi-modular transport and the grand duchy’s scheme to introduce nationwide free public transport, which is due to launch in March 2020.
