Work on construction of Luxembourg’s pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020 started on Wednesday. The  2,770m2 pavilion will focus on “Resourceful Luxembourg” as part of the world expo’s larger theme of  “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.

When finished, the pavilion, designed by local architecture company Metaform, will take the form of a Möbius strip with a 140-metre ramp that allows visitors to be immersed in the exhibition.

But for now, visitors to the Luxembourg Expo 2020 website can view progress in the building via a timelapse camera which updates every 30 minutes.

Some 30 workers are currently employed at the site of the Luxembourg pavilion, and the government says they are protected by strict worker welfare standards, as set out by the Expo 2020 authorities. Eventually some 100 builders will be working at the site. In total 35,000 workers will be employed to build the Expo site.

Back in October 2016 Luxembourg was the first country to sign up to participation at Expo 2020, which opens on 20 October 2020. The organisers hope to attract 25 million visitors during the six-month run of the Expo, 70% of whom they claim will come from outside the UAE.
