Finance minister Pierre Gramegna kicked off his Asia mission on 14 January by speaking at the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong.
The focus of the AFF plenary session in which Gramegna (DP) took part was the opportunities and challenges in creating a sustainable and inclusive future through financial systems and markets.
According to early morning tweets from the Ministry of Finance and Tom Theobald, Luxembourg for Finance deputy CEO, the minister’s speech touched on the need for “international cooperation” extending beyond national borders, as well as the need for “triple A for sustainable finance”.
Strengthening ties
This was the fourth time Gramegna has spoken at the AFF. Gramegna’s participation in the event is part of a wider mission to help strengthen ties between Luxembourg and Hong Kong.
The minister’s full Asian mission runs 14-19 January, during which time it is planned for Gramegna to meet with Paul Chan Mo-po, Hong Kong finance minister, and James Lau, the secretary for financial services and the treasury.
Later Gramegna will head to Tokyo, Japan, where he will meet with Taro Aso, deputy PM and minister of finance, along with several industry leaders. He’ll also be speaking at the ALFI Asia roadshow taking place this week.
