Vegetarianism and veganism have evolved into a global consumer trend.

According to figures published in Euromonitor’s latest Global Consumer Trends report, that trend isn’t limited to rich countries such as the United States.

In many developing regions, where meat consumption is often seen as a sign of prosperity, vegetarianism is also increasingly popular, especially among the young, urban, middle- and high-income population.

This chart ranks the countries with the largest increase of the vegetarian population between 2016 and 2017, with Nigeria, Pakistan and Indonesia the surprise leaders.
