According to a report on RTL, work on easing traffic flow at one of the most notorious congestion blackspots around the capital city will start within a few months. The Irrgarten roundabout at the Hamm-Sandweiler exit of the A1 motorway is to be transformed into a so-called turbo-roundabout, similar to that created at the Serra roundabout in Kirchberg. Work will also be carried out on the smaller Sandweiler-Contern roundabout further up the E29 road.

Bausch has said that double shifts will be employed to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible, and that traffic will not be hindered by lane closures during the work. Plans are also being made to create an exit slip-road for trucks leaving the motorway with direct access to the logistics centre at the airport.

In addition, the ministry is working on plans to improve public transport connections to the Contern industrial zone.
