Chicago indie art-rock outfit Deeper play at Rotondes on 3 December. Delano has tickets to give away.

Formed around childhood friends Nic Gohl (vocals and guitar) and Mike Clawson (guitar), alongside long-standing drummer Shiraz Bhatti, and bassist Drew McBride, Deeper are now almost stalwarts of the Chicago scene.

The quartet’s common ground was the artful post-punk of bands like Wire, Devo, Gang of Four and Television. The band’s self-titled debut received praise from the likes of Pitchfork, which called it “well-oiled and worn-in indie rock, played with the precision and confidence typically expected from a band much further along in its career.”

Since then, Clawson has quit the band and Deeper has released a follow-up album, Auto-Pain, that has also garnered critical acclaim.

Paste magazine called it a “triumphant… stunning indie rock tour de force” filled with “spring-loaded, skeletal guitar riffs”. Check out for yourself next Friday, 3 December at Rotondes. Support comes from French outfit En Attendant Ana.
