The drama follows the life of a man who is “troubled by an identity crisis” and constantly slips into new roles: a peasant, a prince of trolls, a merchant, a prophet.

Led by the choreographer Volha Kastsel, the Luxembourg ballet company is putting on a show based on the Henrik Ibsen’s drama Peer Gynt, written by the Norwegian playwright in 1867. The play follows the adventures of the titular Peer Gynt as he leaves home to seek his fortune and is eventually redeemed by the love of his childhood sweetheart. The music written by Edvard Grieg to accompany the play, such as “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” represents the different places to which the character travels.

“In our time marked by upheavals in the face of which people readily turn to saving figures, choreographer Volha Kastsel sets out in search of today’s Peer Gynt,” say the ballet’s organisers.

The performance on Saturday 20 April will start at 20:00; the show on Sunday 21 April will start at 18:00. Standard tickets cost €31 and youth tickets cost €15.50; discounted Kulturpass tickets are also available. Find more information and buy tickets .
