King Philippe of Belgium began the final day of the state visit with a meet and greet opportunity at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce where he was welcomed by its president Luc Frieden.

The king then joined Queen Mathilde for a slightly more relaxed and informal programme for the rest of the day as they headed down to the Moselle with their host, Grand Duke Henri. The royal entourage visited the Wine Institute to meet vintners and other wine industry players, including representatives of the women’s wine-growers group LuciliVines.

The programme also included a visit to the border town of Schengen, after which the EU agreement on the abolition of internal border checks is named, and lunch aboard the Princesse Marie-Astrid pleasure cruiser as it sailed along the Moselle to Stadtbredimus.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were met at the main railway station in Luxembourg by Crown Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie and minister for integration, the family and the greater region Corinne Cahen before they boarded the royal train back to Brussels.
