The firm announced in a press release published on Wednesday construction of laminating line 5 in Potaschbierg/Grevenmacher.

Plant manager Olivier Laufer said the new line was the result of an increase in demand from buyers within the automotive industry in terms of optical quality and tailoring for shape and other qualities. The new line will differ from traditional methods, which cut and shape rectangular glass plates using the gravity bending technique, by using the more efficient external press bending technique.

It is expected this method will improve energy efficiency at the plant and reduce waste. The new line will be built over 3,400 m2, a site that will include warehouses.

Carlex is part of the Central Glass group headquartered in Tokyo. In 2014, the firm took over the glass production sites of Guardian, which included the Potaschbierg plant where 700 people are currently employed.
