The health ministry announced a few moments ago that there have been 3,886 confirmed covid-19 cases in Luxembourg (up from 3,877 reported on 9 May). Currently there are 199 active infections (down from 245). There have been 101 deaths (no change from Saturday). The average age of those infected is 46 and the average age of fatalities is 83. 

By the latest count, 92 people are in hospital (down from 102 reported on 9 May), of whom just 14 remain in intensive care (compared to 15). A total of 879 patients who tested positive for covid-19 have been discharged from hospital (up from 874).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, a total of 55,250 tests have been carried out (up from 54,463).

The R value reproduction rate for the grand duchy is currently 0.995.

None of these figures include patients transferred to Luxembourg from French hospitals.

By the latest count, 102 people are in hospital (up from 95 reported on 8 May), of whom just 15 remain in intensive care (compared to 16). A total of 874 patients who tested positive for covid-19 have been discharged from hospital (up from 873).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, a total of 54,463 tests have been carried out (up from 53,257).

Friday 8 May, 3:30pm

The Luxembourg Learning Centre in Esch-Belval will on 11 May open a book collection and drop off point for students and staff. All books reserved in advance can be collected from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm. The service is available exclusively for university students and staff.

Luxembourg sports minister Dan Kersch (LSAP) announced during a press conference that some sports complexes may be able to reopen starting 11 May. The decision is based on owner discretion, provided they adhere to strict measures. However, gyms and swimming pools will remain closed. Certain team sports can resume with restrictions.

Luxembourg education minister Claude Miesch (DP) announced in a press conference his ministry will survey parents of primary school children to evaluate their childcare needs once schools partially reopen on 25 May. Leave for family reasons is expected to be stopped from this date, however, there will be some exceptions. Schools and communes, meanwhile, are putting in place additonal structures to host children outside of class time so that parents can return to work. He said the ministry was trying to find alternative solutions for younger learners who would struggle to obey social distancing or wear masks.

Monday 4 May, 5:30pm

Prime minister Xavier Bettel said in a press conference that as of 11 May the general principal of confinement will be lifted. Social contact will be allowed, with households able to host gatherings of up to 6 people. Shops and some cultural venues will be allowed to reopen under certain social-distancing conditions. Hairdressers and beauty salons will also be allowed to open next week, but only by appointment. But cinemas, indoor play areas and any other public spaces where social distancing is difficult will not yet be allowed to open. And, Bettel said, if the positive trend continues, restaurants in some circumstances will be allowed to open as of 1 June, but there are still no plans to allow pubs and cafés or nightclubs to open. More details will be revealed on Wednesday. Also, each person over 16 years of age will receive 50 masks each.
