The health ministry announced a few moments ago that there have been 4.018 confirmed covid-19 cases in Luxembourg (up from the 4,016 reported on 30 May). Currently there are 75 active infections (compared to 87 yesterday). There have been 110 deaths since the outset of the crisis (unchanged). The average age of those infected is 46 and the median age of fatalities is 84.   

By the latest count, 33 people are in hospital (compared to 36 reported on 30 May), including 3 in intensive care (1 fewer than yesterday). A total of 925 patients who tested positive for covid-19 have been discharged from hospital (compared to 924).  

Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, a total of 75,432 tests have been carried out (up from 74,366).  

The Rt_eff effective reproduction number for the grand duchy was 0.79 (unchanged).

None of these figures include patients transferred to Luxembourg from French hospitals.

By the latest count, 36 people are in hospital (compared to 34 reported on 29 May), including 4 in intensive care (unchanged). A total of 924 patients who tested positive for covid-19 have been discharged from hospital (up from 922).  

Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, a total of 74,366 tests have been carried out (up from 72,996).  

The Rt_eff effective reproduction number for the grand duchy was 0.79 (compared to 0.71).

  • France: 149,668 confirmed cases (up from 149,071), including 28,714 deaths (compared to 28,662) and 67,803 recovered patients discharged from hospital (up from 67,191).

The government has shut down 2 of the 4 “advanced care centres” that were set up to handle covid-19 patients. Those in Ettelbruck and Grevenmacher closed their doors on Friday, per the health ministry. Those at Luxexpo in Kirchberg and the Rockhal in Esch-Belval remain open (every day between 10am and 6pm). The health ministry recommended that patients with covid-19 symptoms try to book a video consultation with their GP. In case of emergency, go to an A&E.

Saturday 30 May, 10:30am

Belgium opened its borders for family visits at 7am this morning, according to Jean Asselborn, Luxembourg’s foreign minister. Residents will be allowed to cross the border for shopping.

Belgian border restrictions, along with those of many EU and Schengen area countries, will be fully lifted by 15 June, according to Pieter De Crem, the Belgian interior minister. Belgium introduced border controls due to covid-19 on 20 March, De Crem said.

Meanwhile, the Belgian government has drafted new safety rules for cafés and restaurants, but has yet not set a date for them to reopen, Reuters quoted Nathalie Muylle, Belgium’s economy minister, telling the public broadcaster VRT.
